Kreson v. Woodbury case
Cleveland Plain Dealer - "Lorain
securities broker surrenders" - "Former securities broker
Theresa Stencil once owned a $10 million horse and lived in a luxury home, but yesterday she was bankrupt, facing
criminal charges and being held at the county jail.”
The attorneys at Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC served as lead counsel for the majority of Theresa Stencil’s victims. Stencil
was a registered representative and stockbroker for Woodbury Financial Services, Inc. f/k/a Fortis Investors, Inc. at
the same time that she owned and operated her own financial services company and a family owned land development company. In
her capacity as a financial advisor, she recommended that her customers put their money into her family’s property
ventures. Stencil was indicted and prosecuted on criminal securities charges but that left nothing for the stockbroker’s
former customers. The attorneys at Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC focused their attention on the broker-dealer charged
with supervising the “rogue” salesman. Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC successfully arbitrated the initial case
obtaining full compensatory damages, punitive damages, and fees before an NASD arbitration panel. Subsequently,
we negotiated a settlement for the remaining investors, many of whom were elderly, retired and unsophisticated.
