Blasco, et al. v. American Skandia

Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC represented over 30 former clients of Kevin and Neil O’Donnell who operated as financial advisors and stockbrokers in the Northeast Ohio area.  Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC’s clients, had purchased upon the strong recommendation of their financial advisor, products known as “variable annuities”.  Most of the investments were purchased from American Skandia.  Van Deusen & Wagner alleged that the recommendation to purchase a variable annuity was unsuitable and that the subsequent investment of the variable annuities’ sub-accounts in highly speculative mutual funds was inappropriate and unsuitable given the lack of sophistication and risk adverse nature of these retired investors.  When the investment advisors went bankrupt, Van Deusen & Wagner, LLC turned their attention to the issuers of the variable annuities and achieved a settlement after extended litigation.
